Think your kids are super excited for the live-action Lion King premiere this weekend? They're probably not as excited as Chance the Rapper, an unabashed Lion King superfan who's dropped Mufasa into his lyrics on more than one occasion. "My dad's alive, which is great," he tells The New York Times. But Mufasa, the patriarchal lion who--spoiler alert--dies in the movie, " was a lot of young black boys' depiction of growing into manhood," Chance observes. Chance, who has a small cameo in Jon Favreau's remake, adds that seeing The Lion King onstage when he was 9 "changed my life and made me love musical theater...I always felt like it was a black story and a story that made me feel like Africa was this kingdom, you know? It was probably my first real representation of that."
